Stay at Anantya in the Village to visit the Navathirupathi temples.
These temples are dedicated to the “Navagrahams”, the 9 celestial/planetary bodies. There are no separate idols for the Grahams (planetary bodies), rather in each temple, Vishnu is the deity representing the different planets.
All of the temples are around the Tamrabarani river. The Perumal Temple at Alwarthirunagari is one of the Navathirupathi temples. The temples are also part of the 108 Divya Deshams, the important temples that are considered holy by Vishnu worshippers.
When you visit these temples, we suggest that you take an escorted trip with a guide arranged by Anantya, so that you can learn more about the importance of each of the Navathirupathi temples, the cultural and religious significance of each, the architectural features that enhance or contribute to the spiritual experience.
Visit all the Navathirupathi temples from Anantya in the Village. Instead of a hectic one-day rush through the temples, guests can leisurely visit the 9 temples with a one or two-night stay at Vakula.

The origin of the “Navakailasam” temples, the 9 Shiva temples dedicated to the nava grahams or 9 planets, starts with a beautiful legend.
There are many versions of the legend, but the common thread says that one of the disciples of the venerated Sage Agasthya wanted to attain moksha. When he asked the sage, Agasthya told him to drop 9 Lotus flowers in the river Thamirabarani, and install and worship Siva Linga at the places the flowers reached the banks.
The flowers floated down the river and lodged themselves at different places on the banks of the river, the 9th where the river reached the sea. The disciple installed Siva Lingas at each location, prayed to the god and finally took a bath at the last location. And here he attained moksha.
Each of these temples is dedicated to one of the Navagrahas, the nine celestial bodies/planets.
You can take leisurely darshans of the Navakailasam temples by spacing the temple visits with explorations of the surrounding areas and including other experiences such as handicraft making, taking a picnic, and bathing in a waterfall.

The famous Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur is an ancient temple dedicated to Murugan. This temple is the second among the six “Arupadaiveedugal” or abodes/temples dedicated to lord Murugan.
The temple is located on the seashore and devotees often spend time enjoying the ocean after praying at the temple. Tiruchendur is only 1-hour drive from Anantya in the Village and can easily be incorporated into your multi-day stay at Vakula.
